Hudson Gainer’s goal with 2:38 remaining in regulation lifted the Nipawin Hawks to a 4-2 win over the Melville Millionaires on Tuesday night at the CN Community Centre.
The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one, thanks to first-period markers from Noah Derouin and Finley Radloff. Melville cut into the deficit in the second when Jackson Lee made it 2-1 after 40 minutes.
The Millionaires battled back in the third—after having two goals waved off—finally tying the game when Kale Margolis slipped a shot five-hole on Hawks goalie Gage Roberts for his ninth of the year.
But Nipawin responded quickly. Just over two minutes later, Gainer’s point shot found its way through traffic for the eventual winner, and Will Whitter added an empty-netter with nine seconds left.
Melville, winners of three of their last five, return to action Friday night in Yorkton to open a home-and-home with the Terriers at Westland Arena before the rematch Saturday back on home ice.
Elsewhere in the SJHL:

In Humboldt, the Kindersley Klippers stormed back late—Brock Evans tied it with 2:43 left before Jaxon Herchak scored the winner with just four seconds to go—in a 3-2 comeback win over Humboldt. Goaltender Mattias Radke was outstanding, stopping 49 of 51 shots.
And in Weyburn, Roan Burgess broke a 2-2 tie with a powerplay goal midway through the third, helping the Red Wings to a 4-2 victory over the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Josh Sale scored twice, and captain Lucas Schmid chipped in a goal and two assists for the division leaders.
