If you or your household haven’t been hit by it yet, count yourself very lucky. For the last couple of weeks, my house has been battling whatever this nasty bug is, and it has made its way through everyone.
It all started with my oldest son. He came down with a nasty fever and a rough chest cough that really knocked him down. About three days later, my youngest followed suit with a fever, cough, and full-blown flu symptoms. Then, three days after that, it was my wife’s turn — fever and cough that eventually settled right into her chest.
At that point, I thought I might have dodged it. Nope.
Just before Christmas, it finally caught up with me. On Tuesday, I noticed something weird in my throat. By Christmas Eve, I had pretty much lost my voice. Not ideal when you’re on air right through the holidays and rely on your voice to do your job — and not great timing with family gatherings either.
I ended up with a bit of a fever and no voice, which honestly isn’t too bad considering what the rest of my family went through. I’d say I got off pretty lucky in comparison.
It’s now the 27th, and while I’ve still got a bit of a stuffy nose, I’m feeling pretty good overall. Fingers crossed this is finally working its way out of our house.
Hopefully you don’t have to deal with this bug at all — but if you are, take care of yourself, rest up when you can, and here’s hoping everyone feels better sooner rather than later.
