The Melville Millionaires were active on the trade front Tuesday, completing multiple moves ahead of the CJHL trade deadline.
The Millionaires acquired 20-year-old forward Zane Normand from the La Ronge Ice Wolves in exchange for 18 year old defeceman Carter Turchak, the SJHL rights to 2008-born forward Carter Wingert, Melville’s 2010-born fourth-round pick in the 2026 SJHL Draft, and a player development fee.
Normand appeared in 97 career games with the Ice Wolves, recording 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points. This season, the Ice Wolves captain has six points — three goals and three assists — in 21 games, along with 53 penalty minutes.
Wingert, a Prince Albert product, was Melville’s first-round selection in the 2024 SJHL Prospects Draft. He appeared in six games with the Millionaires before returning to the Prince Albert Mintos of the SMAAAHL, while Turchak recorded no points in five games with Melville after joining the club from the MJHL’s Portage Terriers.
In another move, Melville dealt the CJHL rights to 20-year-old goaltender Ben Laurette to the Bonnyville Pontiacs in exchange for a player development fee. Laurette spent part of last season with the Millionaires before joining the BCHL’s Chilliwack Chiefs in the offseason.
The Millionaires also acquired 19-year-old goaltender Massimo Urbani from the Richmond Sockeyes of the PJHL. Urbani posted a 21-4 record this season with a 2.08 goals-against average, a .925 save percentage, and five shutouts.
The 2026 CJHL trade deadline is set for Saturday, January 10th.
