The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers are making a change behind the bench.
The club has named Josh Garbutt as its new head coach, effective immediately. Garbutt previously served as assistant coach and assistant general manager.
Garbutt brings experience at the elite junior, professional, and senior levels, including time in the Western Hockey League with the Brandon Wheat Kings, Kamloops Blazers, and Prince George Cougars. He was also a key member of the SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers during their 2004–05 championship season. His résumé includes professional experience in the ECHL, CHL, the UK’s EIHL, and time in U SPORTS with the Regina Cougars.
“The organization is thrilled to have a guy with experience at the pro level. It’s invaluable to have a guy that’s won at every level as a player, and we’re excited to have him behind the bench developing the young men in Yorkton,” stated Jeremy Palaniuk, Kinsmen Maulers General Manager and Associate Coach.
As part of the move, the organization has relieved Jason Gordon of his head coaching duties, effective immediately. The Maulers thanked Gordon for his commitment to the team over the past two seasons, both on the ice and in the community.
Yorkton continues its season Wednesday at home against the Tisdale Trojans. The Maulers enter the game with a 6-19-3-1 record and 15 games remaining, including nine at the Westland Arena.
