FORT QU’APPELLE – One man is dead following a multi-vehicle collision west of Fort Qu’Appelle that prompted a highway closure and a safety perimeter due to a leaking propane tanker.
Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP say officers were called at about 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, to a collision on Highway 10, west of the community.
Investigation has determined a propane truck and a semi collided. A pickup truck then left the roadway and entered the ditch in an effort to avoid a secondary collision.
The driver of the propane truck was declared deceased at the scene by EMS. He has been identified as a 73-year-old man from Fort Qu’Appelle.
RCMP say the drivers of the other vehicles involved did not report injuries.
Police determined the propane tanker was leaking following the collision. A safety perimeter was established around the site while crews work to safely remove the propane from the area.
Once that process is complete, a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist will continue the investigation.
RCMP anticipate Highway 10 will remain closed for several hours, with traffic being re-routed around the scene.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and to consult the Highway Hotline for the most up-to-date road closure information.
The investigation remains ongoing.
