A 46-year-old man is facing several charges after Swan River RCMP seized drugs and paraphernalia following an attempted traffic stop early Monday morning.
Police say officers tried to pull over an SUV travelling west on Main Street in Swan River at 2:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated.
A short time later, RCMP say the SUV struck a curb on 9th Avenue North. The occupants then got out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Officers were able to catch up with one suspect and take him into custody without further incident.
A search of the SUV following the arrest led to the seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine and items consistent with drug trafficking, according to police.
A 46-year-old Swan River man has been charged with two counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The man was later released on a release order.
