Manitoba RCMP have issued a Dangerous Person Alert for a man wanted in connection with an assault and abduction on the Pimicikamak Cree Nation.
At 5:40 a.m. on Feb. 5, Cross Lake RCMP responded to a report of an aggravated assault at a home in the community.
Mounties say a suspect armed with a knife, identified as 39-year-old Joshua Paupanekis, allegedly entered the home, and hit a 24-year-old resident with a hammer, before abducting 20-year-old Raeanne Thomas from the home and fleeing with her on foot.
A mass search effort is underway in the community, with multiple police units and police dogs involved, as it’s believed Raeanne is in immediate danger.
Joshua Paupanekis is considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached, and if you see him or Raeanne Thomas, you should call the Cross Lake RCMP, at 204-676-2600.
