Scrolling through my streaming services, I stumbled on some classic (for me) Saturday Night Live episodes from Seasons 40, 41, and 42! I started with Season 40 and was surprised to catch Blake Shelton as both host and musical guest. Flashback to when he was a coach on The Voice and SNL shared the NBC spotlight. Having a country star pull double duty doesn’t happen often, and it made the episode stand out.
Blake brought his signature charm and wit to the sketches, proving he’s got some natural comedic timing. Not every musical artist can pull off the host role, but he really held his own in every sketch. For the musical segments, he performed “Neon Light” and “Boys Round Here,” bringing some country flair to the SNL stage. My favorite sketch from the night was “The Wishing Boot”, so quirky and hilarious! “Farm Hunk” was a close second, serving up plenty of laughs and memorable moments.
If you’re in the mood for some nostalgia and genuine laughs, most of the sketches from this episode are up on YouTube, though tracking down the musical performances is tougher. Watching this episode again is a fun reminder of how quickly time passes, it originally aired over 11 years ago! It’s a great way to relive some pop culture history and see just how much has changed since then.
This is a playlist I put together of the sketches I could find. You can also find the full episode with all sketches and musical performances on Crave.
