If you are out on the roads today, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Fog. Thick, stubborn, sneaky fog.
So here’s your friendly (but serious) reminder — turn on your headlights!
A lot of vehicles now come with automatic lights, and that’s great… most of the time. But here’s the problem: when it’s foggy and still fairly bright outside, those automatic systems don’t always turn your full lighting system on. That often means your taillights aren’t on, and in heavy fog that makes it incredibly hard for drivers behind you to see your vehicle.
You might feel like you can see just fine.
The vehicle in front of you might be visible.
But behind you? You could practically disappear.
Driving in fog isn’t just about seeing — it’s about being seen.
It’s surprising how many vehicles are out there in these conditions with no headlights or taillights on. Grey or white vehicles in fog basically blend right into the mist. Add a little highway speed into the mix and it becomes a dangerous situation quickly.
This is one of the simplest safety habits you can build:
✔️ If it’s foggy
✔️ If it’s snowing
✔️ If it’s raining
✔️ If visibility is reduced at all
Manually turn your headlights on.
Not just daytime running lights — full headlights so your taillights activate too.
It takes two seconds.
It could prevent a collision.
And it makes the roads safer for everyone.
Let’s all do our part. If you’re driving in fog… flip the switch.
