It’s that time of year again — time change weekend.
Now, here in Saskatchewan we like to proudly say, “Not our problem!” because we don’t move our clocks forward or backward. While most of the country is either losing an hour of sleep or gaining one, we just carry on like nothing happened.
But here’s the thing… it does affect us.
In fact, I’d argue it might mess with us even more.
When the rest of the world switches their clocks Sunday morning, every TV show, every game, every live event I normally tune into suddenly shifts. What used to be on at 7:00 is now on at 6:00… or 8:00. And even though I won’t be late for work or miss an appointment, I can almost guarantee I’ll mess up the time of at least one show this week.
There’s something about muscle memory. You just know your favourite program is on at a certain time. You don’t even check — you just flip it on. And this weekend? That confidence could betray you.
It’s funny because while other provinces are adjusting sleep schedules and complaining about being tired, we’re over here double-checking broadcast times and sports schedules. I can already picture myself sitting down, snack ready, only to realize the game started an hour ago.
Good luck to everyone navigating the switch this weekend — whether you’re changing your clocks or just changing your viewing schedule.
In Saskatchewan, we may not change time… but time still changes around us!
