I’m officially back from holidays.
After nearly two weeks of pure relaxation, the alarm going off at 3:45 a.m. this morning felt extra aggressive. It’s amazing how quickly you can get used to sunshine, ocean air, and having absolutely nowhere you need to be.
We packed up and headed out on a Caribbean cruise that sailed out of Miami, and from the moment we stepped on the ship, it was like flipping a switch from winter mode to full-on vacation mode. Our stops included Puerto Plata, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Great Stirrup Cay—and each one felt like its own little slice of paradise.
There’s just something about being outside every day, soaking up the sun and heat, that resets you. No snow, no scraping windshields, no bundling up—just warm breezes and that laid-back island pace. It was exactly what we needed.
This was actually our first winter getaway in six years, which made it even more special. With our son playing hockey, it’s not often we get a chance to sneak away during the winter months. This year, we decided to plan it after the season wrapped up—and it turned out to be the perfect timing. A chance to unwind, recharge, and just enjoy being together without a schedule.
Of course, all good things come to an end.
Now it’s back to reality, back to routines, and back to those early mornings. It might take a few extra energy drinks to fully get back into the swing of things, but the memories (and maybe a bit of a tan) will help carry me through.
If there’s one thing this trip reminded me, it’s how important it is to take that time when you can. Step away, slow down, and just breathe for a bit.
Now… where did I put that snooze button?
