Yorkton Terriers assistant captain Thomas Ries is among the nation’s top Junior A defencemen, earning a nomination for the CJHL Top Defenceman Award.
Ries tied for the league lead among blueliners with 48 points in 52 games, and added 12 more in the playoffs as he helped guide Yorkton to its first league final appearance since 2014. The Humboldt native also helped Canada West capture silver at the Junior A World Challenge.
He’s one of six finalists announced by the Canadian Junior Hockey League.
The others include Simon Mullen of the Summerside Western Capitals, Mathys Laurent of the Rockland Nationals, Reid Forster of the Burlington Cougars, Spencer Horgan of the Greater Sudbury Cubs, and Quentin Bourne of the Whitecourt Wolverines.
The winner will be named later this season.
