Yorkton-Melville MP Cathay Wagantall has announced she will step down from federal politics at the end of August.
Wagantall says while she had originally planned to remain in office until the next federal election, she has decided to leave her post effective August 31st.
The Conservative MP was first elected to represent Yorkton-Melville in 2015 and was re-elected in 2019, 2021 and 2025. Shortly after her first election victory, then-Official Opposition Leader Rona Ambrose appointed her deputy critic for Veterans Affairs.
In a statement, Wagantall thanked constituents for their support over four election campaigns and congratulated Nelson Pohl on winning the local Conservative nomination to become the party’s candidate of record for the next election.
She also expressed appreciation to Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, military and RCMP veterans, her staff, and her family for their support throughout her political career.
