Mother Nature needs to turn the tap off soon.
I had a text on the GX94 text line this morning from the Jedburgh area saying they had a storm roll through last night that dumped six inches of rain in just an hour and a half. That’s on top of ground that is already completely saturated from weeks of wet weather.
You hate to complain about rain on the Prairies because we all know how quickly conditions can change. One year we’re wishing for rain and the next we’re wishing it would stop. Still, it’s hard to ignore just how much moisture we’ve received this spring, and the forecast seems to keep calling for more showers.
There is definitely a bright side to all this rain. Pastures and hay land are looking incredible. As we were driving to Regina this past weekend, I couldn’t help but notice just how green everything is. The fields, ditches, and countryside are about as lush as I’ve seen them in a long time.
Of course, the challenge now is finding the right balance. Farmers don’t need endless rain, but they don’t want the heat to dry everything out either. Hopefully, Mother Nature can give us a nice mix of sunshine, warmth, and timely rainfall through the rest of the summer.
Then again, isn’t that exactly what we wish for every year?
