The Yorkton Sports Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2026, with four individuals and one championship team set to be inducted during its annual ceremony on September 19 at the Gallagher Centre.
This year’s inductees include curlers Cathy Inglis, Karen Cottenie and Jeff Sharp, along with longtime soccer coach and builder Andy Wyatt. The 1991-92 Yorkton Regional High School Senior Boys Raiders basketball team will also be honoured.
Inglis enjoyed success at the provincial and national levels, highlighted by a Canadian Mixed Championship in 1996 and a third-place finish at this year’s Canadian Masters Championship. Cottenie also captured the 1996 Canadian Mixed title before dedicating more than two decades to coaching and expanding Learn to Curl programs across east-central Saskatchewan.
Wyatt is being recognized for more than 30 years of coaching and developing soccer in Yorkton. He helped establish the Yorkton United Football Club and has coached Saskatchewan teams at three national championships.
Sharp, a Yorkton product, won four consecutive Saskatchewan men’s curling championships with Pat Simmons from 2005 to 2008, earning a Brier bronze medal and becoming one of the province’s most accomplished curlers.
The 1991-92 Raiders boys basketball team compiled a 29-and-2 record before capturing the provincial championship with a decisive 73-44 victory over Swift Current in the final.
The Class of 2026 joins 97 athletes and builders and 21 teams previously inducted since the Yorkton Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1994.
The induction banquet begins with a light buffet at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, at the Gallagher Centre. Nominations for the Kinsmen Club-sponsored Support for Sports Award remain open until August 15.
