There’s something special about fair week. The Yorkton Exhibition & Summer Fair has officially arrived, and I always look forward to it.
I’ve been going to the Yorkton Ex ever since I was a kid. I still remember my uncle taking me, we would spend hours riding the midway rides until I could barely walk by the end of the day. Back then, it was all about squeezing in just one more ride before heading home.
Fast forward a few years… okay, maybe more than a few… and things have changed a little. These days, you’ll find me keeping both feet firmly on the ground while my boys take on the rides. I’ll happily leave the spinning, flipping, and dropping to them!
Now I enjoy a different side of the fair. I love grabbing a seat to watch the live entertainment on the evening stage, checking out the chariot and chuckwagon races, and soaking in the atmosphere. There’s just something about seeing the grandstand come alive that makes it feel like summer has truly arrived.
And, of course, we can’t forget the food. Whether it’s mini donuts, lemonade, a corn dog, or trying something new from one of the food vendors, fair food is always part of the experience. It might not be the healthiest meal of the year, but it’s definitely one of the tastiest!
The Yorkton Exhibition has been creating memories for generations, and it’s fun to think about how every family has their own favourite tradition. Mine may have changed over the years, but the excitement of fair week hasn’t.
So, what’s your favourite part of the Yorkton Exhibition & Summer Fair? Is it the midway, the live music, the chuckwagons, the animals, or is it all about the food?
If you’re heading to the fair this week, keep an eye out—you just might see me wandering the grounds with a snack in hand. Have a fantastic time, make some great memories, and enjoy everything the Yorkton Ex has to offer!
