The GX94 Backyard Concert brought to you by the Legacy Co-op was an absolute blast this year!
I know I probably sound like a broken record because every time we give away a concert, contest, or experience, I end up saying the same thing: “Our winners were amazing.” But honestly, it’s true. We are incredibly lucky at GX94 to have the kind of listeners we do.
This year’s Backyard Concert winner was Amber Bratkoski of Yorkton, and it was such a pleasure getting to meet her family and friends. Her mom was an absolute sweetheart, and the whole group made us feel right at home.
Now, a quick side note about Amber because I thought this was pretty exciting. She’s a registered doctor, finishing up one more year of school, and then plans to come back to Yorkton to open her own practice. I have a feeling she’ll have a waiting list before she even gets the sign up on the door! That’s fantastic news for our community.
The concert took place at her boyfriend Riley Cmoc’s farm just outside of Yorkton. Technically, it’s his grandmother’s farm, but Riley works the land and plans to take it over one day. At least that’s what Audrey told me.
And Audrey knows what she’s talking about.
At 90 years old, she made her way down to the shop to hear the concert and meet Josh Stumpf. She was an absolute delight to visit with and one of those people you instantly wish you had more time to chat with.
Speaking of Josh Stumpf, I can’t say enough good things about him.
First of all, he sounds exactly like he does on the radio. Sometimes artists sound great in a studio and a little different live. Not Josh. With nothing but a guitar, a microphone, and an acoustic set, if you closed your eyes you would’ve thought you were listening to GX94.
And beyond the music, he’s just a genuinely fun guy to be around.
Whether it was his contagious laugh or the stories he shared between songs, he had everyone smiling. We got to hear the behind-the-scenes stories about songs he’s written, the hilarious and sweet story of how he proposed to his girlfriend, and even learned his drink of choice.
His answer?
Pretty much anything.
A true Saskatchewan boy.
It was one of those evenings that reminded me why I love these events so much. Great music, great people, lots of laughs, and the chance to spend time with listeners who feel more like friends by the end of the night.
Thank you to our sponsors for making the night happen, Legacy Co-op, as always they out did themselves with the spread that they provided! Dobrowody Distillery in Rama. We are very excited to have teamed up with this local distillery.
Thank you to our other sponsors, Jump.ca in Yorkton, Swan Valley Credit Union in Swan River, Eisner Auctions in Minnitonas, and Access Communications in Yorkton.
Thank you again to Amber and Riley, their family and friends, and of course Josh Stumpf for making this year’s GX94 Backyard Concert one we’ll be talking about for a long time.
