Former Dauphin Mayor and longtime Member of Parliament Inky Mark has been charged with numerous firearm offences, stemming from an investigation that began earlier this year.
In late March, Mounties were notified that firearm charges had been laid in the United States against a 73-year-old Dauphin-area man, that led to further charges laid against the individual by the RCMP.
During the course of that investigation, Mounties found and seized firearms purchased by a second suspect, that they say were never lawfully transferred, and warrants were obtained to search the second suspect’s home.
The warrants were executed last week, with authorities seizing a total of 439 firearms, an antique cannon, ammunition and over $300-thousand in cash.
The investigation continues, but the 78-year-old Mark currently faces a total of 12 charges, including firearm trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
He was taken into custody, but later released.
