There are a lot of things I love about summer. The warm weather, relaxing by the pool, backyard fires, and spending time outside are tough to beat. I’m definitely not ready for summer to end.
That said… I’m not going to lie, it felt pretty great to be back at the rink last night.
There’s just something about walking into an arena. The sound of skates cutting into fresh ice, pucks bouncing off the boards, and familiar faces you haven’t seen in months. It almost feels like catching up with another family after a long break.
It was great seeing friends again and watching all the kids back on the ice, working hard and getting ready for another hockey season. My son was out there for his first skate of the summer, and you could tell everyone was excited to get back at it. It’s amazing how quickly they shake off the rust and get back into hockey mode.
The craziest part? Tryouts are less than a month away. It feels like just yesterday we were wrapping up last season, and now we’re already talking about a new one. Time really does fly.
As much as I enjoy summer, hockey season has a way of bringing its own excitement. Early mornings, late nights, tournaments, road trips, cheering from the stands, and catching up with all the hockey families are things I’ve genuinely missed.
I guess I’d better get ready for one of the best traditions of rink season too… rink burgers! Somehow they always taste better after spending a few hours at the arena.
So while I’m hanging on to every bit of summer I can, it sure was nice to be back where it feels a little like home. Here’s to another great hockey season just around the corner.
