A month ago, we thought we had simply been adopted by a sweet stray cat. She wandered into our lives, decided we were acceptable humans, and never really left. We named her Spot, and honestly, she’s been the easiest pet. She’s calm, affectionate, absolutely gorgeous, and somehow seems to understand when she’s being told “no.” For someone who had no clue what they were doing with a cat, she made me feel like I had it all figured out.
Then came the surprise.
Spot is pregnant.
Apparently, while I was busy learning how to be a cat owner, she had already been planning the next chapter. So now, sometime this week or next, we’re expecting kittens. Tiny, fluffy, adorable, chaotic little kittens.
Do I know what to do with kittens?
Absolutely not.
Do I even know what I’m doing with a cat? Honestly… still no.
I’ve spent the last few days reading articles, watching videos, and asking anyone who has ever owned a cat for advice. Everyone says, “Don’t worry, Momma cat knows what she’s doing.” That’s comforting because at least one of us has a clue.
I’m excited, though. Nervous? Definitely. Prepared? Not even close. But Spot has surprised us once already by choosing our home, and she’s been an incredible little companion ever since. I guess I’ll trust her to teach me what I need to know.
So if you hear random updates over the next week about sleepless nights, tiny meows, and an overload of kitten photos… you’ll know why.
As for me, I’ll be over here Googling, “How to survive becoming an unexpected kitten grandparent.”
