Like a lot of the world, I’m still shocked from the passing of Dolly Parton. Dolly was a person beloved by all, coming from very humble roots, she never forgot where she came from and always uplifted anyone who needed it. As a country music legend, a gifted actress, the visionary behind Dollywood, and the founder of the Imagination Library, she impacted so many people. Through her Imagination Library, she sent millions of books to young children across the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and Ireland, nurturing a love of reading and opening doors for countless families.
Dolly’s kindness, humour, and fearless spirit touched people everywhere. Even if you never met her, she still found a way to be part of your life. Like so many little girls, I was first introduced to Dolly as “Aunt Dolly” on Hannah Montana, where her warmth and humour were unforgettable. Her unlocking a door with her acrylic nails blew my mind. Later, watching 9 to 5 with my mom, I loved her even more. When I was younger, my grandma took a trip to Tennessee and stopped at Dollywood. She brought me back a t-shirt and a baseball cap that I wore until I sadly outgrew them.
Dolly’s legacy will continue to shape the world for years to come. In a fitting tribute, Tennessee’s governor has announced that Nashville’s international airport will soon be named after her, welcoming visitors to the heart of Music City. Though Dolly Parton is no longer with us, her legacy continues in her timeless music, unforgettable film roles, the pathways of Dollywood, the life-changing work of the Imagination Library, and the memories she created for millions. The world may mourn her passing, but her light continues to shine on. 🦋
