Just like that, we are back in the rink and hockey season is in full swing.
It feels like we just left the rink a few months ago and were switching out the skates and hockey sticks for golf clubs and summer activities. But here we are already!
Last weekend, my son went through his U16 AA tryouts, and now practices have already begun. Believe it or not, games are right around the corner this weekend. The hockey season waits for no one!
Don’t get me wrong, the rink is one of my favourite places to be, but I don’t think I was quite ready to head back just yet. Summer always seems to fly by, and it feels like we barely had time to put the hockey gear away before it was time to pull it all back out again.
One of the best parts about getting back to the rink is seeing so many familiar faces. Hockey brings families together, and it’s nice reconnecting with many of the parents and families we spent so much time with last season.
If we have to go through another Prairie winter, though, there really is no place I would rather spend it than at the rink. Watching the games, cheering from the stands, drinking hot chocolate in the arena and spending weekends with the hockey family—it all becomes part of life this time of year.
So, ready or not, here we go again. Another season of early mornings, road trips, practices, games and plenty of time at the rink.
Hockey season is back!
