Sometimes you plan a fun family night, and sometimes you just open the pantry and see what happens.
The other night, the boys and I decided we needed dessert. Not make a recipe and measure things properly dessert. More of a “How many sweet things can we possibly put on ice cream?” kind of dessert.
So we raided the pantry.
We found Caramel sauce, Chocolate sauce, a spoonful of homemade raspberry jam (because why not), I think there was even melted peanut butter drizzled on top. Whatever else looked like it might belong on ice cream, we grabbed it.
The boys took this job very seriously.
There was scooping, sprinkling, pouring and probably enough sugar involved to power a small city. At one point, I’m pretty sure we had crossed the line from “dessert” into “science experiment,” but by then it was too late to turn back.
And honestly, it was perfect.
We took our ridiculous bowls of ice cream to the couch, picked a movie and settled in. No running anywhere. No cleaning up the kitchen immediately. No schedule to follow. Just the three of us, eating completely unnecessary amounts of sugar and watching a movie together.
The bowls eventually got scraped clean, the movie ended, and the sugar crash was probably waiting around the corner.
But for one night, we had ice cream covered in basically everything, a good movie and two very happy boys.
Honestly? I’ll take that kind of family night any day.
