The arena at the Gallagher Centre has a new name, as the City of Yorkton has signed a ten-year naming rights agreement with Soak Zone Auto Spa, that took effect Oct. 1.
In a release, the City notes that the ice surface is one of the community’s busiest recreation and event spaces, for activities ranging from hockey and figure skating, to concerts, car shows, and events such as the annual Harvest Showdown.
Naming rights agreements give local businesses the chance to invest directly into community facilities, while generating additional revenue for the city.
Soak Zone co-owner Mike Popowich said in the release that they’re excited to enter into the partnership with the city, adding “Yorkton has been very good to us, and we’ve always believed in supporting the community that supports our business,” while fellow co-owner Evan Johnson noted their families spend a lot of time at the arena, taking part in sports, while making “a lot of great memories” in the building, adding that “to now see our name on the arena is pretty special for all of us.”
Mayor Aaron Kienle said the decade-long partnership allows the City “to find new ways to support the facilities our residents use and enjoy,” calling the agreement with Soak Zone a “significant investment” in the Gallagher Centre’s future.
