With Halloween coming up this Saturday, I think there’s one big question a lot of us are wondering: What time should the kids start trick-or-treating?
I don’t have kids young enough to be out trick-or-treating anymore, but that doesn’t mean I’m off the hook! We still have to be ready to hand out treats, and I’d like to know when I should expect the little ghosts, goblins, witches, and superheroes to start showing up at the door.
It’s easy when Halloween falls on a weekday. The kids get out of school, have some supper, get their costumes on, and head out for the evening. But when Halloween falls on a Saturday, the schedule changes a little. There’s no school to work around, so what’s the right time to get started?
My vote is around 3 p.m.
I think that’s a pretty fair time to start. It gives the kids plenty of time to make their way around the neighbourhood, visit lots of houses, and collect enough treats to keep them happy. At the same time, it doesn’t mean Halloween takes over the entire day for everyone handing out candy!
Of course, some families might prefer to wait until later in the afternoon, especially if they have younger children. Others might want to get an early start and be home before it gets dark. Everyone has their own routine, and I’m sure the weather will have a say in things, too!
So, I’m curious: What time do you think trick-or-treating should start when Halloween falls on a Saturday? Is 3 p.m. reasonable?
If you’re a parent with kids who will be out collecting candy, or someone who will be answering the door and handing out treats, I’d love to hear your opinion.
Let’s hear it! When should the little monsters start knocking on your door this Halloween?
