Who invited Winter back? I certainly didn’t! Mother Nature decided to slap us with some wet snow last night, giving us an early reminder of what’s just around the corner.
Thankfully, this snow won’t stick around for long, and we still have some warmer temperatures in the forecast. But after last night’s drive, it’s a good reminder that winter driving conditions can show up before we’re ready for them.
I had to take my son to Melville and back for hockey practice last night. The drive there wasn’t too bad. It was a little wet, but nothing too concerning. The drive home, however, was a completely different story! The highway was icy, there was plenty of slush, and we saw two vehicles in the ditch along the way. That certainly got my attention!
I’m still holding off on putting the winter tires on my vehicle. With some warmer weather still ahead, I’m hoping to get a little more time out of my all-seasons. However, we’re getting pretty close to that time of year when winter tires become a necessity rather than something we can keep putting off.
The biggest takeaway from last night? Slow down, give yourself extra time, and be prepared for changing road conditions. Just because the drive starts out fine doesn’t mean it’ll stay that way!

Let’s hope Mother Nature gives us a little more fall before winter decides to settle in for good!
